Marine Biology MSc @ UALG


The Marine Biology MSc programme aims to promote multidisciplinary advanced training in Marine Biology, providing skills for the analysis and understanding of marine biodiversity, from genes to ecosystems, their functioning and diversity. The program includes a strong component of participation in practical research, including laboratory and field work in different marine ecosystems. Applications include marine biological resource exploitation, conservation and biotechnology. Courses are taught in English.

Statistics Electives - students must choose one of these two modules:

  • Beginner's module: Introduction to Statistics (3 ECTS) + Basic Statistics in R (3 ECTS); or
  • Advanced module: Basic Statistics in R (3 ECTS) + Experimental planning (3 ECTS)

IMPORTANT NOTE - Students should only choose the advanced module if they have strong math and statistics skills obtained at the BSc level.


1st year - 2nd Semester (30 ECTS)

Advanced Methods in Biological Oceanography (6 ECTS)
